We live in a “Brave New World” but thanks to the internet, we have options available to us that make this new world vibrant and creative. I am not going to try to convince you that learning music online is always superior to lessons in person because there is no one size fits all to anything in life. What I am going to say is that there are many benefits to online music lessons and some of these you may not have considered before.
Then, to be fair, I will discuss some of the disadvantages and address some solutions for this pandemic period in my next blog – “Solutions to the Drawbacks and Disadvantages of Online Music Classes.” The good news is that when the pandemic is over and we return to a “New Normal” we will have learned to incorporate the benefits of learning music online into a supportive system giving you more options for your busy schedule.
There are Many Benefits of Learning Music Online for Children and Adults
Online lessons are more convenient. By far, the most significant benefit of learning music online is that it’s ridiculously convenient. After all, how cool is it that you get to learn and grow as a musician from the comfort of your own home? Online lessons are scheduled in 2 ways – small group classes are at set time slots or individual classes that are much more flexible for you. This way, you can take lessons in a small group if you enjoy the small group dynamic and supplement with individual classes for even more targeted instruction. You can also take advantage of some features that are nearly impossible to schedule in the “At School” only model of scheduling. These options include “Extra Help Office Hours” where teachers are offering extra help sessions when you may need a few additional minutes of help and “Master classes” given by our specialists. An example of this is a working Guitar Performer giving tips on playing guitar and the necessary tricks of the trade that are difficult to learn any other way.
Online music lessons give you more choices. We have 15 teachers on staff at Fundamental Music, giving us maximum flexibility to match you with a teacher that fits your schedule. As a faculty, we are adapting to this situation by collaborating with each other more than we ever could have before. Taking online lessons means we can match you with the perfect music teacher and the ideal schedule, even if they live across the state.
Online lessons offer some unique benefits. There are some advantages associated with online instrument lessons that just can’t be replicated any other way. The support tools that are readily available during online lessons make this much more interactive. Sharing content during the lessons means teachers have interactive tools at their fingertips to support concepts, guide skills and are just plain fun. Music enrichment can be incorporated into the lesson in ways we were never able to do before. Note reading will be made easier due to the ability to work with sites that support learning.
