How the ‘At-School Program’ works
  • Live Demonstration

Children get to watch a live demonstration of each instrument being performed at school. Our team of musicians explain the basics of each instrument, and then perform a medley of songs so the children can hear a real instrumental ensemble.

  • Registration

After the demonstration, each child is provided a flyer to take home. This flyer has a QR code and website address to use for information and enrollment. The registration period usually lasts one week after the demonstration.

However, it’s NEVER TOO LATE to join the program! There is a registration fee and tuition, and there are options to add rental/purchase equipment if needed.

  • Scheduling

Each teacher assembles the lesson groups once the registration forms are received. Lessons are a 30-minute, small-group lessons. Lessons take place either during school or after school (depending on the scheduling choice that is best for each school).

Please Note: Lessons scheduled during the school day are on a  Flex schedule so a child never misses the same class period twice in a row. Our commitment to scheduling means we will make every effort to consult with classroom teachers for the most appropriate times for classes. Should your child need an adjusted time any week, teachers are committed to making adjustments in a smooth manner. If class is after school (only available a some schools) you will be asked for a dismissal option during enrollment.

  1. Schedules will be available on Fundamentalmusic.org.
  2. Schedules will be posted in each classroom and copies will be given to each student. (The schedule details the times and groups for each student)
  3. Please Note: you will be sent a login email from Fundamentalmusic.org – this will be unique to you so your page is secure. – please check your spam folder if you don’t receive this in your inbox.
  • The First Lesson

At the first lesson, students will be shown detailed steps for beginning or continuing an instrument. If you ordered materials and an instrument, students will receive these either at this class or at the next class (generally it takes about a week from the date these are ordered for delivery to be made)

Each child will learn how to assemble and disassemble their instrument, basic maintenance, and how to produce a sound in the first lesson!

  • Progress Reports

Using the Fundamentalmusic.org site will allow for ongoing lesson notes. In this way, you will be able to monitor student progress on a regular basis. You will also be able to communicate with your teacher as needed.

  • Practicing at Home

Students are expected to practice at home. We’ve all heard the mantra “practice makes perfect”. Students are expected to practice at least three times a week for no less than 15 minutes.

The Fundamentalmusic.org page gives you access to a practice log. This will be useful for our practice incentive programs (details to follow)

  • Performances

First-year students have the opportunity to play in a full-band ensemble group at the end of the school year. A letter will go home to parents with the date and time of the performance.

Students who are continuing from the previous year, typically perform both a holiday concert in December and in the performance at the end of the year.

Students will have several full-group rehearsals prior to their performances. In addition, students who are ready will be invited to participate in our award winning Honor Band. This ensemble performs at exciting venues such as Washington DC, NYC, Hershey Park, Dorney Park, Six Flags and Disney World.

  • End of School Year

At the end of the school year, students are encouraged to continue their practice over the summer. Lessons will be available at select schools and Online.
